We spent most of the day today being happy and relieved by the good news my hubby got at the hospital this morning. They scoped his esophagus again, and gave him a Botox injection. His doctor said things looked cleaner than they ever have in all the time he has been treating him! His soft food diet is working! It will continue to be a challenge to keep meals interesting enough that he doesn't get bored, but he is so glad that he didn't agree to the surgery. The Botox may make things even easier, but we aren't going to expect a big change. I think we can go on for a long time just the way we are. Thank God!
Hubby started calling everyone after we got home because I had picked up my phone and put it in my work bag instead of the bag I was taking today. In the middle of his calling, the phone rang. It was our youngest daughter calling to tell us that her husband's father wasn't expected to live through the night. He hasn't been well for some time now, and has been in a lot of pain. He has been in the hospital or nursing home since July. He and his wife were planning to move out of their home into a retirement community next year. Say a prayer for them.
Such good news about your husband. So sorry to hear about your daughter's father in law.
Great news for your husband. Cheers to him. I am sorry about your daughter's father in law though. Have you ever noticed in life the good always somes with the bad? Kind of a yin yang thing?
It does seem that way. Just nature's way of keeping us humble, I guess. Kind of like the nice party your family went to, but your daughter had a bad experience.
Thanks! Do you have any good news on the job search front?
Thanks so much for asking. I had a very good interview last Friday. One of the four people I interviewed with was dealing with an issue and dropped by for a few minutes at the end of the meeting, so I had a follow up call with him on Tuesday. That was a lot tougher. It's much harder to understand the emphasis of a question or comment on the phone. I'm waiting to hear the outcome and keeping my fingers crossed. I did a short project for the company last winter and I loved it there.
I do so hope it works out for you. In this day and age, any job is good, but if you can land one with a company and people you love, you are indeed blessed. I will say a prayer for you.
Glad to hear Paul is improving. How did your daughter's fil do? Hoping for the best.
We haven't heard from Susan today. Thanks for your concern.
I'm so far behinding in reading about my Vox friends….what happened to your hubby that he needs a special soft food diet? Hope he is getting better.
Susan's father-in-law died late Saturday night. We will be going to the wake in St. Louis tomorrow.
In a nutshell, his esophagus doesn't work anymore, so his food has to fall from his throat into his stomach. Plus the opening into the stomach is very small, so only very small particles of food can make it through. He is feeling a lot better, and gaining weight! Can you imagine eating enough baby food to gain weight?
I'm sorry about Susan's father-in-law. Extend our condolences please.
Gees, how did that happen "his esophagus doesn't work anymore"? That sounds awful. You must be a great cook and wife to help him gain weight on this baby food diet! I'm so sorry about his health issues, it must be hard on you and the family to see him go through this. Take care and I'm sure he is doing well.
It's a long story, and it's been a long time coming. He started having problems in the 80's, and had surgery in 1987. To make a long story short, the muscle at the bottom of his esophagus doesn't work, and his esophagus doesn't either. It is enlarged and stretched out from years of eating food that wasn't getting to his stomach. It isn't easy, but we are so much luckier than a lot of folks. At least we can do something than doesn't involve medication or surgery, so that is a blessing. How are you feeling these days?
Thanks, Linda. I will.
Gees, I feel so bad for your hubby. This issue isn't something you can push a side and forget about! I'm glad this is working for him and doesn't involve drugs or surgery..that is a blessing!
I'm feeling wonderful..thanks for asking!
