Hazy afternoon in the country

Orange and yellow mums

Orange and yellow mums

Some filmy clouds moved in to cover the sun this afternoon.  Perfect for shooting flowers.  Plus the dogs were busy somewhere else.  Here’s what I found.

Dahlia

Fall dahlia

It would be much prettier if something wasn’t eating on the petals.

Lantana

Lantana with green and black seeds

I have tried all summer to get a good picture on my Lantana to no avail, but I like this one which has the bonus of including the seeds, both the green ones and the black ones.  Are the black ones getting “ripe”?

Mums

The beauty and the rest

I’m not sure how this mum plant ended up with one pretty bloom and lots of dead ones.

Purple petunias

Purple petunia with watercolor filter

These purple petunias look so much more dramatic with a watercolor filter.

Dahlia blossom and bud

Dahlia blossom and bud

I like the composition of this dahlia blossom and bud.  Hope the weather holds long enough for some of the other buds to open.  It was nice and warm today.

I love the dahlia with the nibbled petals – that’s what real gardens usually look like. 🙂
Lantana is considered a noxious weed in Australia.

  3. These are great! I think the bright cheery mums are my fav.
