Sensitive Plant

Several days ago I posted a photo of a mystery plant that was growing by the side of our country road.

Sensitive plant?

An observant read suggested that this is a sensitive plant, and the leaves do look like that, but the flower is different.

Go here, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mimosa_pudica, for a description and photos.  Take time to look at the video clip of the leaves closing when they are touched.  We saw a true sensitive plant in Hawaii.  It closed up just like the video.

According to the article, sensitive plants do not grow in our state, so some more research is needed.  I’m going to have to go back down the road and see it I can find this plant again.  I only remember seeing this one plant along a mile of road, so it is sort of like hunting for a needle in a hay stack, except I do have a vague idea of where I was when I took the photo.
